I decided to do a gestural figure painting today. It ended up looking sort of like a robot with glowing eyes, which was not what I intended, and, consequently, I am not all that pleased with the results. I think the problem was too wet paint that expanded and left me with a rather blob-ish distorted form.

rosemary.. this new work is really powerful.!. I am so pleased with your courage and willingness to leave empty space and the immediacy of your brush work... I still think there is more room to experiment with the frame of reference or overall gestalt in each piece ... how do the edges of the painting shapes relate to the borders of the painting... What does the picture want? i'd like to see you combine some of these ideas or parts of these ideas .... consolidate and see what happens... your sense of contrast proportion always astounds me... what about trying to do the ugliest painting you can... just to go someplace unexpected
